Franz Schubert by noe-3d.at
Schubert monument in the Stadtpark in Vienna’s 1st district. The monument shows the composer Franz Schubert sitting with a music book and pencil (no longer exists). There are three allegorical reliefs on the base. On the front the musical fantasy, instrumental music on the left and vocal music on the right. The base is by Theophil Hansen, the stone figure by Carl Kundmann. The monument was donated by the Vienna Men’s Singing Society and unveiled on 15 May 1872. Inscriptions: Front: “FRANZ SCHUBERT / SEINEM ANDENKEN / DER WIENER MAENNERGESANGS-VEREIN / MDCCCLXXII.” Reverse: “geboren zu Wien am XXXI. Jänner MDCCXCVII / gestorben zu Wien XIX. November MDCCCXXVIII”. Franz Peter Schubert (1797-1828) was an Austrian composer. Despite his short life, he created over 600 songs, 12 symphonies, 9 overtures and numerous choral songs and stage works.
